We are very excited to announce that we have a new piece of equipment that will enable us to monitor the health of your eyes even better.
The OCT is a very sensitive state-of-the-art scanner that, amongst other things, enables us to examine the microscopic layers beneath your retina (the light sensitive layer at the back of your eye).
For the first time, we can get a 3D picture of your eye & also a series of images that are cross-sections, rather like an MRI scan. This allows us to diagnose conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma & optic nerve disease at a much earlier stage.
Having an OCT scan is very safe because it works by only using normal light. The procedure itself is not painful but, in order to get clear pictures, you might need to have pupil dilation
